Claude for Android and ChromeOS
Everything about the Claude Android app in 2026 - installation, device support including ChromeOS, feature parity with iOS and web, and managing Play Store billing.
Claude for Android is Anthropic's official mobile app, published on Google Play as “Claude by Anthropic” under the package name com.anthropic.claude. It is free to install, works on the free plan, and the same build also runs on ChromeOS - Anthropic lists Chromebook support on its own download page, so there is no separate Chromebook package to hunt for.
Feature coverage matches the iPhone and iPad app closely: chat, voice mode, camera and document uploads, Projects, Memory, connectors and Artifacts, all synced with the web app through your account. Install links are on claude.com/download.

Direct reads of the Google Play listing on 21 August 2026 did not return the official page, so the star rating, review count and download bracket could not be verified against a primary source. Third-party aggregators publish figures, but they are estimates, and this site does not republish numbers it cannot check. Look at the Play listing itself if the rating matters to you. The iOS page does carry App Store figures, because that listing was readable.
#How do I install Claude on Android or a Chromebook?
Search Google Play for “Claude by Anthropic”, confirm the developer is Anthropic PBC, and install. Then open the app and sign in with the same email or Google account you use elsewhere - Claude has no passwords, so the sign-in step is a Google account or an emailed link, as explained on our login page. Your plan follows the account, so nothing needs re-purchasing on a new device.
On ChromeOS, install the same app from the Play Store. It runs in a resizable window like any other Android app; there is no native ChromeOS build and none is needed. If your Chromebook is managed and Play is disabled, use claude.ai in the browser - you lose only the widget and system integrations.
APKs of “Claude Pro unlocked” and similar modified builds circulate on file-hosting sites. None are from Anthropic, none can unlock a paid plan - plan status is enforced server-side - and installing them hands a third party your account credentials. The only legitimate sources are Google Play and Anthropic's own download routes.
#What can the Android app do?
#Voice mode
Spoken two-way conversation, hands-free or push-to-talk, with a preset voice and adjustable pace. Beta, on all plans including Free, and optimized for mobile.
#Camera and files
Photos, screenshots and PDFs go straight into a chat for text extraction, chart reading and document analysis.
#Widget and app integration
Anthropic documents a home-screen Claude widget for Android, plus using Claude alongside other Android apps via the system share flow.
#The Android widget and sharing into Claude
Anthropic publishes a help article for the Claude widget on Android and a second on using Claude with Android apps - the documented route for pushing selected text or a file into a conversation through Android's share mechanism. What is not documented is an equivalent of the iOS “Ask Claude” App Intent, so iOS currently has the deeper system integration. If Shortcuts-style automation matters to you, that gap is real.
#Voice mode caveats
The same three limits apply as on iOS: voice conversations count against your normal usage allocation, Claude Fable is unavailable in voice mode, and voice cannot be used with Cowork or Claude Code. Multilingual voice works on all plans, with non-English support still in beta, and Enterprise administrators can have the feature disabled organization-wide.
#Android vs iOS vs web: is there feature parity?
Broadly yes for chat, with a handful of platform-level differences that come from the operating systems rather than from Anthropic favouring one.
| Capability | Android / ChromeOS | iOS | Web |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chat, Projects, Memory, Artifacts | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Voice mode (beta, all plans) | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Camera, photo and PDF upload | Yes | Yes | File upload only |
| Home-screen widget | Yes | Yes | - |
| System-wide assistant intent (Siri / Spotlight / Shortcuts) | Not documented | Yes | - |
| Claude Code as a remote client | Yes | Yes | Research preview at claude.ai/code |
| Local MCP servers | No | No | No - desktop only |
| In-app subscription purchase | Google Play | Apple | Anthropic directly |
As on iOS, the Code tab is a client for Claude Code rather than a place where code executes. From a phone you can watch and steer cloud sessions, drive a local session by Remote Control, or hand work to a desktop machine with Dispatch - which requires Pro or Max and is not available on Team or Enterprise. Terminal-only commands such as /plugin and /resume do not work from the app. The workflow is covered on Claude for developers.
#How do I manage or cancel a Claude subscription bought on Google Play?
The same rule as on Apple applies, and it catches people out just as often:
If you subscribed to Claude Pro or Max through the Android app's in-app purchase, Google is the merchant of record. Anthropic never took the payment, so Claude's own billing settings cannot stop it or refund it. Cancel through Google Play. Uninstalling the app does not cancel anything - the charge keeps arriving.
#Cancelling through Google Play
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Tap your profile icon in the top right.
- Tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- Select Claude from the list.
- Tap Cancel subscription and follow the confirmation steps.
You keep the paid plan until the end of the period already paid for, then fall back to the free plan with conversations and Projects intact. Refunds go through Google Play's order-history process, not Anthropic support. The same screen changes the payment method.
#Which billing route should you use?
| Bought in the Android app | Bought directly from Anthropic | |
|---|---|---|
| Merchant of record | Anthropic | |
| Where you cancel | Play Store → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions | Claude account settings on claude.ai |
| Refunds handled by | Google Play order history | Anthropic support |
| Annual Pro billing ($200/year) | Generally not offered through the store | Yes |
| Team and Enterprise seats | Not available | Yes - see Enterprise |
| Usage credits for Pro and Max | Store credit bundles where offered | Billed at API rates with spend caps |
Buying directly on the web is the more flexible route and is the only way to reach annual billing, Team seats or Enterprise. Full plan mechanics - including the rolling five-hour window, the weekly cap and the separate Opus counter - are on the pricing page, and what each tier unlocks is laid out in the feature and plan matrix.
#Uninstalling Claude from Android
Long-press the Claude icon, tap App info, then Uninstall - or remove it from Google Play's “Manage apps & device” screen. Two things to be clear about. First, uninstalling does not cancel a subscription; cancel it in Play first if that is what you actually want. Second, uninstalling does not delete your data - conversations, Projects and Memory live in your Claude account and will still be there on the web. Deleting the account itself is done from account settings on claude.ai.
#Where the Android app falls short
Stated plainly: the deep OS-level assistant integration that iOS has - Siri, Spotlight, Shortcuts chaining, a Lock Screen control - is not documented for Android, so cross-app automation is thinner. Long documents and Artifacts are awkward on a phone screen regardless of platform, even though the 1M-token context on Sonnet 5 and Opus 5 is available on mobile. And, as everywhere in the Claude line, there is no image, video, audio or music generation, and no video or audio input - a real gap against the assistants Google ships by default on Android, examined on Claude vs Gemini.
#Frequently asked questions
Is there an official Claude app for Android?
Yes. Anthropic publishes “Claude by Anthropic” on Google Play under the package name com.anthropic.claude. It is free to install, chat works on the free plan, and paid features unlock when you sign in with a Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise account. Verify the developer is Anthropic PBC before installing.
Does Claude work on a Chromebook?
Yes. Anthropic's download page lists ChromeOS support for the Android build, so any Chromebook with Google Play can install the same app. There is no separate ChromeOS package. On managed Chromebooks with Play disabled, use claude.ai in the browser instead.
How do I cancel Claude Pro on Android?
Open the Google Play Store, tap your profile icon, choose Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions, select Claude and tap Cancel subscription. Access continues until the end of the paid period. Uninstalling the app does not cancel the subscription, and claude.ai cannot cancel a Play Store purchase.
What is the Claude Android app's rating on Google Play?
This site does not publish one. The official Play listing could not be read directly on 21 August 2026, so the rating, review count and download bracket are unverified. Third-party aggregator figures exist but are estimates. Check the Play Store listing yourself for current numbers.
Do Android and iPhone versions have the same features?
Close to it for chat, voice mode, uploads and widgets. The main documented gap is system-level integration: iOS has an "Ask Claude" App Intent usable from Siri, Spotlight, Shortcuts and Control Center, and no equivalent is documented for Android. Everything syncs across both through your account.
Can I run Claude Code from the Android app?
Only as a client. The app reaches cloud sessions, drives a local session through Remote Control, or hands work to a desktop machine via Dispatch, which needs Pro or Max. Code does not execute on the phone, and terminal-only commands such as /plugin and /resume are unavailable.
Platform support checked on 21 August 2026 against claude.com/download and code.claude.com/docs/en/mobile; widget and voice behaviour against Anthropic's Android widget article and its voice mode documentation. Google Play statistics are deliberately omitted as unverified.
